Forest Road

Where the Dust has Settled

There is a place where the dust has settled,

Noisome beast long gone.

There is a place where the dust has settled,

Impetuous chipmunk investigates,

Squeaks “all clear”, scurries out of sight.

There is a place where the dust has settled

Gawking tourists departed.

There is a place where the dust has settled.

Hidden fawn rises,

Mother finds, together they wander onward.

There is a place where the dust has settled,

Synthetic footfall abates.

There is a place where the dust has settled,

Tentative fox appears,

Sniffs the air, darts across the road.

There is a place where the dust has settled,

Silent forest reigns.

There is a place where the dust has settled,

My spirit unfurls,

Weaves among the trees, finding peace at last.
